Quando diagnosticada ainda na fase de crescimento do paciente, uma opção de tratamento é o uso de aparelhos ortopédicos funcionais. O objetivo deste artigo é mostrar um caso clínico de uma má oclusão de 1/2 Classe II, 1ª divisão bilateral na dentadura permanente jovem, tratado em duas fases. Na primeira fase do tratamento foi utilizado o Ativador de Andreasen para correção da discrepância esquelética maxilomandibular normalizando as relações oclusais e em uma segunda fase o aparelho fixo para o refinamento da oclusão. Os resultados obtidos demonstram que o sucesso do protocolo de tratamento em duas fases depende do correto diagnóstico, momento oportuno para iniciar o tratamento e colaboração do paciente no uso do aparelho removível.
