A hipermobilidade da articulação temporomandibular caracteriza-se pela posição anormal do côndilo em relação à cavidade glenòide, podendo apresentar-se: anterior, posterior, superior, lateral ou medial. A hipermobilidade da ATM apresentase quando ocorre um episódio isolado ou episódios repetidos, estes chamados de hipermobilidade recorrente, cuja ocorrência é relatada entre 3 a 7% da população geral.
