A metodologia consistiu em uma pesquisa na base de dados PUBMED, as chaves de busca foram: “Orthognathic”, “Orthodontics” e “Sleep Apnea”. Em um total de 110 estudos, foram selecionados 19. Os resultados demonstraram que a odontologia contribui de forma eficaz para o tratamento da Apneia obstrutiva do sono a partir do uso de aparelhos intra-orais ou da realização de procedimentos cirúrgicos, a indicação do tratamento mais adequado dentro da odontologia depende das condições sistêmicas do paciente, aceitação e colaboração do paciente e a classificação da síndrome de apneia do sono(leve, moderada ou grave),portanto, a realização de uma anamnese minuciosa é muito importante antes de submeter o paciente a um plano de tratamento. Os resultados ao utilizar uso de aparelhos intra-orais e realizar cirurgias ortognáticas têm se demonstrado satisfatório, reduzindo os principais sintomas do paciente, como: redução do ronco, aumento na regĩo de vias áreas superiores, aumento da saturã̧o de oxiĝnio, melhora na qualidade do sono, no ́ndice de despertar, nas porcentagens de est́gios e eficîncia do sono e redũ̧o de sonol̂ncia diurna. O presente estudo contribui para a ciência a partir de enfatizar a importância da odontologia na equipe multidisciplinar do tratamento da apneia obstrutiva do sono, visto que a literatura evidenciou poucos estudos abordando essa relação. Os sons articulares acabam sendo um sintoma comum a alguns tipos de DTMa, como na hipermobilidade, no deslocamento de disco com redução e nas doenças degenerativas da articulação temporomandibular. Devido à grande dificuldade em ter um diagnóstico correto e preciso das DTMs, o objetivo do nosso trabalho é averiguar se a presença de som articular pode ser usada como diagnóstico diferencial nas DTMa. As bases de dados utilizadas foram PubMed e Lilacs. Foram selecionados 14 artigos publicados entre 1992 e 2015, que usaram som articular como parte do diagnóstico para DTM articular. Com base nisso, sugere-se que o som articular pode apresentar várias causas, assim, a presença ou ausência do mesmo, não deve ser o único fator a ser considerado no diagnóstico diferencial das DTMas.
