A utilização de propulsores mandibulares fixos com essa finalidade de tratamento vem sendo cada vez mais utilizada nos últimos anos, principalmente por não necessitar da colaboração do paciente, a exemplo dos aparelhos funcionais removíveis e o uso de elásticos intermaxilares, otimizando, assim o tempo de tratamento. A partir de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, investigaram-se as principais vantagens, desvantagens, indicações e contraindicações desses dispositivos. Constatou-se que, além da independência com relação à colaboração do paciente, os propulsores mandibulares fixos promovem, não só alterações dentoalveolares, compensando a distoclusão, como também propicia efeitos esqueléticos, em muitos casos. Todos os trabalhos revisados relataram resultados positivos com a utilização destes aparelhos. Também pode ser classificada como dentária ou esquelética. Normalmente a mordida aberta anterior dentoalveolar (MAA) é multifatorial, ou seja, está relacionada a vários fatores etiológicos. O tratamento da MMA passa pelas seguintes etapas: remoção do hábito, utilização de impedidores de dedos, língua e lábios, fechamento da mordida aberta, adequação fonoarticular e contenção. O objetivo desse trabalho foi apresentar um relato de caso do tratamento da mordida aberta anterior dentoalveolar ambiental. Para tal foi utilizado um disjuntor palatino para a expansão rápida da maxila e ao mesmo tempo grade palatina e esporão para a remoção dos hábitos. Como resultado foi possível realizar a expansão da maxila com o Hyrax, o fechamento da mordida através da grade palatina e esporões e para concluir o fechamento foi realizada a mecânica ortodôntica. O advento da informação, o relacionamento social e a vaidade propriamente dita leva o paciente a uma maior busca por tratamento estético, o que implica na necessidade da atuação de profissionais qualificados, para necessariamente se obter melhorias na qualidade de vida e/ou recuperar sua saúde e autoestima. Para obtermos bons resultados é importante a aplicação de técnicas adequadas e por cima avaliar o grau de satisfação do paciente. A pesquisa foi do tipo quantitativa, com a amostra selecionada de forma estratificada, nas documentações dos pacientes de ortodontia, tratados por este signatário nos municípios de Caiçara, Logradouro e Guarabira, Estado da Paraíba . Os dados coletados foram tabulados para análise estatística descritiva, em seguida, apresentados através de tabelas, quadros e gráficos. Na oportunidade, iremos frisar o quantitativo de pacientes mutilados que procuraram e se submeteram a tratamento ortodôntico, tendo como base os municípios acima descritos. Oportunamente também veremos que as mulheres estão mais preocupadas com a saúde bucal, haja vista, terem sido elas quem mais procurou atendimento.
